Thinking through discipleship – John Drane

We increasingly meet people who say “If I was to follow Jesus, I don’t think I would do it the way you people do”  So what can we learn from the way that Jesus called people to follow him, and how might that inspire us for effective mission in today’s fast-changing world

John and Olive have shared a passion for each other and for a radical approach to Christian discipleship since they were young teens.  They have had extensive experience of ministry in many different contexts, and have found wide acceptance among Christians of many different traditions.  They are both Fellows of St John’s College, Durham, as well as being affiliate professors in the School of Theology at Fuller Seminary, Pasadena, California.  Olive’s story is to be found in her book Clowns, Storytellers, Disciples. She has also written Spirituality to Go: rituals & reflections for everyday living, and (with John) Family Fortunes: faith-full caring for today’s families.  John has written several books on the Bible as well as the best-selling The McDonaldization of the Church.  They have three adult children and four grandchildren.  They enjoy meeting people, and as well as gardening, DIY, cycling, and travel they have been known to have fun snow skiing and roller blading.
